Update! Why Does Teddy Have Cancer?

This is one of the hardest updates we’ve ever had to share.

So many of you have been asking about Teddy—why he hasn’t been himself, why he’s been visiting the hospital so often, and what’s really going on. We’ve taken some time to process everything, and now we want to be honest with you.

Teddy has been diagnosed with cancer.

Even writing those words feels unreal.

It started with small changes. Teddy was more tired than usual. He didn’t run as fast, didn’t play as long, and sometimes chose to rest instead of joining in. At first, we thought it was just part of getting older or maybe recovering from a minor illness.

But deep down, something didn’t feel right.

We noticed a loss of appetite, occasional discomfort, and moments where Teddy just seemed… different. His energy wasn’t the same, and his bright eyes carried a quiet heaviness we couldn’t ignore.

So we took him to the hospital for a full checkup.

The vets ran multiple tests—blood work, scans, and careful examinations. We hoped for something simple, something treatable and temporary. We held onto that hope tightly.

But the results came back with news we weren’t prepared for.

Cancer.

It’s a word that changes everything in an instant. A word that brings fear, confusion, and so many questions.

Why does Teddy have cancer?

The truth is, there isn’t always a clear answer.

Cancer in dogs can happen for many reasons—genetics, age, environmental factors, or sometimes no specific reason at all. It’s not something we caused, and it’s not something Teddy did wrong. It’s just one of those heartbreaking realities that can happen, even to the most loved and well-cared-for companions.

And Teddy is deeply loved.

Since the diagnosis, we’ve been working closely with the veterinary team to understand the best options for him. There are treatments, there are plans, and most importantly, there is still hope.

Teddy is strong.

Even on difficult days, he still finds moments to wag his tail. He still leans in for cuddles. He still looks at us with the same love he always has—and that reminds us that he’s still here, still fighting, still our Teddy.

Roo has been by his side through it all. She seems to sense that something is different, staying close and gentle, offering quiet comfort in her own way.

And us? We’re taking it one day at a time.

Some days are harder than others. Some moments feel overwhelming. But we’re focusing on what matters most—making sure Teddy feels safe, loved, and never alone.

We don’t know exactly what the future holds.

But we do know this: Teddy’s story is not defined by this diagnosis. He is more than an illness. He is joy, loyalty, warmth, and unconditional love wrapped into one beautiful soul.

So while this update is heavy, it’s also filled with determination.

We’re going to fight for Teddy.
We’re going to cherish every moment.
And we’re going to surround him with as much love as possible.

Thank you to everyone who has been sending kind messages, prayers, and support. It truly means more than words can express.

So, why does Teddy have cancer?
We may never fully know.

But what we do know is this:
Teddy is not facing it alone.

And neither are we. 🐶
